Our Profile
Double S Music Machine is run by experienced DJ
and presenter Steve Skinner, who has had a lifelong interest in
music. Steve was a vocalist in R & B and Soul bands before moving into
DJing in the 1970s.
Steves DJ career started with a chain of City of London fun pubs where he appeared regularly at weekends with Go-Go dancers. He later moved into the mobile market and gained further experience with charity functions in London hotels as well as small and medium size weddings.
Steve left the industry completely in 1975 but returned 20 years later. Since then he has invested in high quality sound and light equipment and now has an excellent rig which can be adapted according to function size. With 95% of engagements being for weddings, Steve plays whatever is appropriate from his ever-growing collection of popular music from the 1950s to the present day, as well as his clients' requests. Specialist nights of Soul, Disco, 60's, 70's etc. can also be arranged.
In 2002 and 2003 Steve was involved with internet radio, presenting Soul Serenade for 2 hours every Wednesday evening on Netcast Radio, based in Peterborough. He has been and is currently associated with various FM radio trials.
Steve is ably assisted by his wife, Jane, who was once a dancer accompanying bands and DJs, although thats not how she and Steve met! Jane takes requests and deals with guests generally so that Steve can concentrate on reading the crowd and playing the right track at the right time. She also has the knack of suggesting good titles to play.
Steve and Jane strive to provide the exact requirements for their clients, whose tastes can differ widely. To achieve this all clients receive a music planner, well in advance, on which they can request any titles they particularly wish to hear on the night, with the guarantee that they will be available. Clients have asked for programmes featuring a great variety of music genres (from Indie to R & B and from traditional Italian to Irish, Scottish and Sri Lankan). Steve and Jane have never failed to provide the requested tracks.
They adhere to high standards of service, courtesy, dress, punctuality and attention to detail, will set up during the day if requested, and never touch alcohol on duty. Above all they remember that its the clients function - not theirs!
